Gardens round here slope, sit on clay or chalk, and take the wind off the Channel. We build decks on a proper frame with the joists spaced for the boards you choose, so they stay flat and do not bounce. On sloping plots that often means two or three levels joined by steps, which is how you get a flat seating area and a lawn in the same garden.

We also build close-board and slatted fences, raised sleeper beds, built-in benches and the occasional circular deck.

Garden jobs get priced after a site visit, because access, slope and what is under the lawn all change the build.

Decking, fencing & garden builds: questions

Timber or composite decking?

Timber costs less and looks natural, and needs an oil or stain every year or two. Composite costs more up front and needs little more than a wash. We price both so you can compare.

Do I need planning permission for a deck?

Most garden decks do not, but a deck raised more than 30cm off the ground, or in a conservation area, may need it. Check the Planning Portal or ask your council (Wealden, Eastbourne, Rother or Lewes) before we start.
